Medical Abortion – The Abortion Pill

A medical abortion (the abortion pill), terminates pregnancy by using medication. It is an option for patients whose pregnancy is under 10 weeks.

While we cannot legally provide you with a medical abortion at this time, we support your choice to end your pregnancy and will provide you with medically accurate information involving all your reproductive healthcare.

If you choose to terminate your pregnancy with abortion pills, you will take two different medications over the course of several days. The first medication, Mifepristone stops the growth of the pregnancy by causing it to detach from the lining of the uterus. The second medication, Misoprostol encourages the uterus to contract and expel the pregnancy.

Should you need medical attention after a medication abortion performed out-of-state, our licensed board-certified doctors are available to provide follow-up care in a supportive and confidential setting.

surgical abortion

A surgical abortion is one of the safest surgical procedures in Cape Town. During a surgical abortion, the cervix is gradually dilated and the contents of the uterus are gently removed using suction and a surgical instrument called a curette. The procedure takes about 5-7 minutes. You can expect to feel mild to moderate cramping and pressure.
